The Finnish String Academy offers high level extracurricular training for talented young string players in Finland. The String Academy is composed of the Cello Academy, Violin Academy, and Viola Academy.
The Finnish String Academy trains 20-30 students at a time, aged between 8 and 20 years of age. The Academy mainly operates by organizing monthly masterclasses, supporting and encouraging the students' optimal development towards well-rounded musicianship. Masterclasses are organized 12-16 times a year throughout the different academies. Lessons are held in Porvoo, Finland, in collaboration with the Porvoo Music Institute.
The Finnish String Academy is a member of the Finnish Instrumental Academies, consisting of the String Academy, the Youth Piano Academy and the Brass Academy. The Academy is supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation and the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation.
