Martta Kunnola

Martta Kunnola (born 2005) is studying at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts in Nils Mönkemeyer’s class. Previously, she studied at the youth department of the Sibelius Academy under Annariina Jokela, Lilli Maijala, and Teemu Kupiainen. Martta began her music studies at the age of 5 in her hometown of Kaarina, after which she continued at the Helsinki Conservatory under Janne Malmivaara.

Through the String Academy sessions, Martta has received important additional training from Anna Kreetta Gribajcevic and Lilli Maijala. She has also received masterclass guidance both in Finland and abroad, in Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, from Pauline Sachse, Silvia Simionescu, Nils Mönkemeyer, and Kirsikka de Leval Jezierski, among others.

Martta has had the opportunity to play chamber music in various ensembles, including at festivals such as the Heinävesi musiikkipäivä and the Kamarikesä Festival. She has gained symphony orchestra experience with groups such as the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Tampere Philharmonic, the Helsinki Concordia, and Vivo. Martta was the principal violist of the Concertgebouworkest Young in the Netherlands in 2023, as well as a soloist with the Sibelius High School Symphony Orchestra in the fall of 2023.

Martta won 1st place at the Stockholm International Music Competition in 2023 and the Young Talent award at the Oulu Viola Competition final in 2022. She plays a modern viola by Falk Peters, which was supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation, the Wihuri Foundation, the Majaoja Foundation, and the Pro Musica Foundation.
