Onni Kunnola (b. 2001) began his violin studies at the age of 8 at the Arkipelag Music Institute. In 2016, he moved to the Helsinki Conservatory to study under Janne Malmivaara. Since 2020, he has been studying at the University of the Arts Helsinki, Sibelius Academy, under the guidance of Pekka Kauppinen. Onni has also received additional instruction at the Violin Academy from Janne Malmivaara and Elina Vähälä, as well as from other masterclasses.
Onni has competition experience from, among others, the Jyväskylä Violin Competition, Kuopio Violin Competition, and the Anja Ignatius Violin Competition, where he won second prize in January 2023. As an orchestral musician, he has gained experience with ensembles such as the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, Lapland Chamber Orchestra, and the Helsinki City Orchestra. Onni’s violin is a Jacques-Pierre Thibout from 1816.
