Vilma Tikkanen (born 2011) will start the fall term at the Norsen Secondary School in Helsinki, and enjoys taking care of her two cats at home and dancing. She studies violin at the Sibelius Academy's youth program under the guidance of Réka Szilvay. In addition, Vilma is a student at the String Academy in Porvoo, where she receives instruction from Janne Malmivaara and Elina Vähälä.
Tikkanen began her violin studies at the age of 3 under the guidance of Terhi Malin at the West Helsinki Music School. At music camps and courses, Vilma has also received lessons from Zoja Istomina, Päivyt Meller, Annemarie Åström, as well as Sirkka-Liisa Kaakinen and Linda Suolahti. The chamber music courses at the Sibelius Academy’s youth program have provided valuable experience in ensemble playing.
Vilma has performed with the Wegelius Chamber Orchestra, at the Tampere Chamber Music Festival in 2024, and at concerts organized by the String Academy and the Sibelius Academy.
Vilma participated in the Juhani Heinonen Violin Competition in 2022. The recognition prize she received there has inspired her to continue her studies.
