Katri Mettänen (born 2008) started her violin studies at the Helsinki Conservatory at the age of 8 under the guidance of Tapio Tuovila. Since 2022, her teacher has been Janne Malmivaara. Katri has been involved with the Violin Academy since the spring of 2024.
In addition, Katri has participated in numerous masterclasses, including Raudaskylä’s Soiva Kesä, the Joutsenon Course, and the Naantali Music Festival course.
Competitions bring Katri enthusiasm and motivation. She has participated in several competitions and achieved success, including a finalist place in the 2022 Juhani Heinonen Violin Competition (final), third place in the 2022 Young Musician Tallinn competition, and an honorable mention in the Ilmari Hannikainen Chamber Music Competition.
Katri also enjoys chamber music. In the autumn of 2023, Katri and pianist Ella Oksava met and formed Duo Subito. In addition to the duo, Katri plays in various chamber music ensembles both at school, at the music institute, and in her free time. She is currently in her second year at the Sibelius Upper Secondary School, studying music. In addition to music, Katri’s interests include singing, reading, nature walks, learning languages, and traveling.
