Leea Mattila (born 2009) from Uurainen began playing the violin at the age of 4 at the Ala-Keitele Music Institute in Äänekoski. Her teacher was Niina Tuunainen until 2019. Since 2018, Leea has been a student at the Violin Academy under the guidance of Janne Malmivaara and Elina Vähälä. In the autumn of 2019, she moved to the Borgå Region Music Institute to study under Janne Malmivaara.
In the spring of 2019 and 2022, Leea won first place at the Young Musician competitions held in Tallinn and received special mentions for her performances of the virtuoso piece (2019), sonata (2022), and modern piece (2022). Additionally, in 2022, she won second prizes at the Juhani Heinonen Violin Competition (10-12 years category) and the International Leonid Kogan Violin Competition (Category B).
Leea Mattila, together with her sister Aino, was selected as a soloist for the RSO’s Young Soloists concert in May 2024. In the summer, she also performed as an invited artist at the Riihimäki Summer Concert Festival and the Naantali Music Festival.
Leea has received support for her violin studies from the Suomen Kulttuurirahasto, Pro Musica Foundation, and the Oleg Kagan Memorial Fund.
