Olga Niemi (born 2007) has been part of the Violin Academy since the summer of 2018. She started her violin studies in the autumn of 2012 as a student of Sirkka Kuula at the Espoo Music Institute. Since 2020, Olga has been studying violin at the Sibelius Academy’s Youth Education Department under Päivyt Meller.
Olga has participated in numerous masterclasses both in Finland and abroad. In the summers of 2023 and 2024, she attended a month-long masterclass at Jacob’s School of Music at the university, studying under Mimi Zweig and Sarah Kapustin. Olga has successfully participated in violin competitions, achieving several prize placements, including her most cherished first prize in the 13-15-year-old category at the Juhani Heinonen competition in spring 2022, first prize in the under 10 category at the SIMC VI competition in Stockholm in spring 2017, and an honorable mention at the 2023 Ilmari Hannikainen piano chamber music competition. Additionally, Olga has performed at chamber music festivals in Riga in 2022 and as a young soloist with the Wegelius Orchestra in 2019.
As a musician, Olga is versatile and enjoys performing in orchestras, as a chamber musician, and as a soloist. She serves as the concertmaster of the Tapiola Youth Symphony Orchestra and as the third concertmaster of the Sinfonia Orchestra Vivo. In addition to violin, Olga also studies composition under Markku Klami.
